Kashid Beach

One of the best white sand beaches around Alibaug…

Kashid is a beach town on the shores of the Arabian Sea, in the North Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is located 30 km from Alibag and 135 km from Mumbai on the Alibag-Murud road.

It is well known for its beautiful coconut trees and ample logging facilities. People tend to stay at Kashid instead of Alibaug as it is more beautiful and peaceful.

There is no dearth of fun activities in Kashid Beach. It is a fun place to visit with your partner, family, or friends. Apart from water activities – which are totally spoiling – most fun things to do here are actually free of cost. Here’s what all you can expect to do at the beach:

  • Laze around on the beach hammocks
  • Go horseriding
  • Go swimming in the sea
  • Try adventure sports such as , parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling and banana boat rides
  • Pitch your tent and spend the night camping, stargazing by the bonfire
  • Thanks to the varied topography, trekking to Phansad and other locales is also one of the major things to do near Kashid Beach
  • Go sightseeing since Kashid is in close proximity with Alibaug. Some of the popular tourist attractions near Kashid are Kanakeshwar Forest, Janjira Fort, and Alibaug Beach

By road: The road to Kashid is scenic. There’s coastal route and hill routes that await you on your road trip. Buses ply between Kashid, Mumbai and Pune daily. You can easily find a bus to Alibaug, and from Alibaug bus station you can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to reach Kashid Beach.

KORLAI FORT & LIGHT HOUSE

At a distance of 6 km from Revdanda, 14 km from Kashid Beach, and 24 km from Alibaug, Korlai Fort is a Portuguese fort situated at Korlai in Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is one of the best places of sightseeing in Alibaug and also one of the popular historical places to visit near Mumbai.

Korlai Fort was built by the Portuguese under the permission of Sultanate of Ahmednagar. It secures the way to the Revdanda Creek. The Portuguese built this fort as a strategic decision to defend.

In 1521 AD, taking advantage of the confusion in the aftermath of the death of the Burhan Nizam the Portuguese tried to take over the fort but the Ahmednagar sultanate occupied the island. However in 1594, the Portuguese won the fort but not having enough men to stand guard there chose to destroy it leaving only the central tower and a battery intact. The fort was taken by the Marathas who held it from 1739 – 1818 CE.

People in this village are mostly fishermen and speak Marathi, Hindi and Portuguese language. It is famous for its Dry fish business. Some of the local fish are Sukka Bombil, Vakti (Long slender fish), Dried small size prawns called Sukka javla.

Korlai fish business

From the southern gate of the fort travellers can visit the Korlai Lighthouse which is still in operation. The tall lighthouse stands amidst a well maintained compound with a neatly decorated garden on all sides. The Korlai Lighthouse is a fully automated lighthouse which was built in 1955 AD. The top radar keeps a track of the surrounding sea and constantly takes pictures which get directly transmitted to the coastal guards via satellite.

Tourists have to trek 2 km from the Korlai village through rugged grassland to reach the Korlai Fort, Small bike can be taken to mid way near fort but the car has to be parked at the Korlai village as the road is narrow.

PRISTINE ALIBAUG

Varsoli Beach

Varsoli is one of the long coastline beach nearest to Alibaug town. Located around 2kms from State transport bus depot is a beautiful beach in Alibaug. Surrounded with a long tree stretches Varsoli is one of the popular beaches for water sports in Alibaug.

It was probably a smoke trail by an airplane which later began to look like spiral cloud or a bird feather.
